Thoroughness
We never rush. Every element of a property โ from the roof timbers to the drainage โ gets the attention it deserves. Our detailed survey reports reflect the care we put into every inspection.
We're a team of RICS-qualified, CIOB-accredited surveyors based in Nottingham โ passionate about helping people buy property with confidence and complete peace of mind.
Nottingham Surveyors was founded in 2010 with one simple goal: to give property buyers across Nottingham access to genuinely expert, independent surveying advice โ without the corporate jargon or the inflated fees.
Our founder, James Whitmore, had spent a decade working for a large national firm and watched too many buyers receive boilerplate reports that told them nothing useful. He decided there had to be a better way. By setting up a local practice rooted in the Nottingham area, he could offer the personal service and deep local knowledge that the big firms simply couldn't.
Fifteen years on, we've completed over 1,250 surveys across Nottinghamshire โ from two-bedroom terraces in Sneinton to sprawling Victorian farmhouses near Newark. Every survey still gets the same attention to detail, and every client still gets a real conversation with their surveyor after the report lands in their inbox.
That's what makes us different. We're not just providing a surveying service โ we're partners in your property purchase, from start to finish.
Everything we do is guided by four core principles that shape every survey, every report, and every client conversation.
We never rush. Every element of a property โ from the roof timbers to the drainage โ gets the attention it deserves. Our detailed survey reports reflect the care we put into every inspection.
Surveying jargon helps nobody. We write our reports in clear, straightforward language โ so you can read your Level 2 or Level 3 survey and actually understand every word of it.
We work for you โ not the estate agent, not the mortgage lender. Our advice is always independent, impartial, and in your best interests. That's the foundation of trusted surveying.
Our surveyors live and work in the Nottingham area. We know which postcodes have persistent damp problems, which streets have subsidence history, and where new developments are changing property values.
Behind every survey is a real person โ an expert who knows Nottingham's property market and genuinely cares about your outcome.
Director & Lead Surveyor
James founded Nottingham Surveyors in 2010 after 10 years in the industry. Born and bred in Nottingham, he has an encyclopaedic knowledge of the city's Victorian terraces, post-war semis, and modern new builds. He leads every Level 3 building survey personally and is the first to pick up the phone when a client needs advice. Outside of work, James is a passionate cricket fan and season-ticket holder at Trent Bridge.
Senior Surveyor
Sarah joined the practice in 2015 and quickly became the go-to surveyor for complex residential properties across the Nottingham area. She specialises in Level 2 home surveys and has a particular talent for spotting hidden damp and drainage issues early. Sarah grew up in Beeston and brings an insider's perspective to surveys on properties in the south of the city. When she's not inspecting properties, she volunteers for a local housing charity.
Surveyor & Valuation Specialist
Marcus joined us in 2019, bringing a fresh perspective and strong expertise in both residential and commercial property surveys. Originally from West Bridgford, he now handles the majority of our commercial property work as well as property valuations for mortgage and probate purposes. Marcus is also our go-to expert for snagging surveys on new-build homes. He loves cycling the Trent Valley routes at weekends.
